Went to lunch with Lo this afternoon, our sort of "goodbye" lunch as I am on my way out of San Diego here in a few days. We hit up the fine, high fallutin' establishment of TGIFridays (something we do not have in our small town).
It was nice, to see her any way, as we had both managed to live quite close to each other but never really found the time to get together. We talked a lot about... dreams and town gossip. Lo has been my friend since Freshman year of high school, she's from my same small town, she knows how it is.
The Waiter guy (who shares the same name as Husband, fun fact) obviously wanted her. Took extra time to ask her how she liked her sandwich "it's messy, but it's good, right? Right?!" and then made sure to refill her drink plus bring her an extra drink (oh the benefits of being hit on by the waiter) while I sat with my empty Strawberry Lemonade (granted he did ask if I wanted a refill, when we were getting up to leave).
It didn't really feel like a goodbye. Lo's been such a staple in my life AND I usually talk to her every day on email any way... plus we've got that small town between us... but still... I did tell her about mourning the loss of the many, many stores to shop at.
"Instead of Mervyns" I said (because that's about what we got in our small town).
"Oh Mervyns," Lo smiled. "Well think of it this way, from now on shopping will be a real event. You'll be like 'I'm flying down to San Diego to go shopping! How fun."
Right before she got out of the car she let me know that Fashion Valley is getting an Anthropologie, just in time for me to take off into the horizon.
"Whatever," I said.
"Event," she reminded me. "From now on, city life is an event."
